News Today Live Updates, 21 January: Shooters Wanted for Chandigarh Sewak Pharmacy Firing Injured in Encounter, 4 Arrested
Chandigarh | January 21, 2026 — In a major breakthrough in the Chandigarh Sewak Pharmacy firing case, police on Tuesday confirmed that the two main shooters, who were absconding after opening fire at a pharmacy, were injured during an encounter, while four accused have been arrested so far, officials said.
Encounter Ends Manhunt for Key Accused
According to senior police officials, the shooters were traced late Monday night following sustained intelligence inputs. When police teams attempted to apprehend them, the accused allegedly tried to flee and opened fire, prompting a retaliatory action. Both shooters sustained injuries and were immediately taken to a government hospital, where they are reported to be out of danger and under police custody.
“This encounter has significantly strengthened the investigation. The injured shooters are the key conspirators in the Sewak Pharmacy firing incident,” a Chandigarh Police spokesperson said.
Four Arrested, Weapons Recovered
Police have so far arrested four individuals linked to the case, including those who provided logistical support and helped the shooters escape after the incident. Multiple weapons and vehicles used in the crime have also been recovered.
Authorities revealed that the firing was planned and executed with criminal intent, though the exact motive—whether extortion or personal rivalry—is still under investigation.
What Happened at Sewak Pharmacy?
The incident took place earlier this month when armed men opened fire outside Sewak Pharmacy in Chandigarh, causing panic in the area. Fortunately, no civilian casualties were reported, but the incident raised serious concerns about public safety.
Following the attack, Chandigarh Police launched a city-wide search operation, reviewing CCTV footage, call records, and vehicle movement data.
Police Assure Strict Action
Police officials reiterated that no accused involved in violent crimes will be spared. Further arrests are likely as the investigation progresses, and the police are also probing possible links to organized crime networks.
Public Urged to Stay Calm
Authorities have urged citizens to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement, assuring that Chandigarh remains safe and that strict measures are being taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
