Key Highlights: How the Fort Fell

  1. The End of an Era: For the first time in 30 years, the BMC—Asia’s richest civic body with a budget exceeding ₹74,000 crore—will likely have a BJP Mayor.

  2. Fadnavis’s Blockbuster: Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis is being hailed as the "architect of victory," with posters of "Dhurandhar Devendra" appearing across Mumbai.

  3. Thackeray’s Resilience: Despite losing the majority, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT) managed to win 65 seats, proving that the "Thackeray Brand" still holds significant sway over the Marathi heartland.

  4. The "Pawar" Struggle: The results dealt a heavy blow to the NCP factions. In Pune, the BJP secured a massive 119 seats, leaving Ajit Pawar (27) and Sharad Pawar (3) far behind.

Maharashtra Civic Polls: Statewide Sweep

Beyond Mumbai, the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance dominated the urban landscape, winning control of 25 out of 29 municipal corporations.

  • Pune & Pimpri-Chinchwad: A total sweep for the BJP, decimating both NCP factions in their traditional strongholds.

  • Nagpur: The BJP maintained its grip with 102 seats, while Congress trailed with 34.

  • Thane: Eknath Shinde’s home turf saw his Shiv Sena faction winning 75 seats, securing his position as a leader of the masses.

  • The Surprise Element: The AIMIM made notable gains in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (33 seats) and Malegaon, emerging as a "spoiler" for the MVA alliance.

What’s Next for Mumbai?

With the Mahayuti alliance holding 118 seats (BJP 89 + Shinde Sena 29), the focus now shifts to the Mayoral election. While the BJP has the numbers, Eknath Shinde has hinted that the decision on the Mayor's face will be a collective one.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked the voters of Maharashtra on X (formerly Twitter), stating that the mandate is an endorsement of "pro-people good governance."
